Good morning from the Cottage of Blog where the coffee is fresh and the muffins are right out of the oven (yeah, right. I'm headed to Duncan Donuts as soon as I'm finished)
The Texas Book Festival was one of the great experiences in my writing career. It was huge--set in front of the capital in Austin. Tents were spread all along the street in front of the park starting with a discount book tent and extending to through Barnes and Noble and to the signing tent. The final day I was there, Carl Bernstein and James Lehrer were scheduled to sign. I saw neither. Neither did I see Jenna Bush, but understand she was there.
There's something so great about meeting people you've talked to for years, even helped through writing assignments or had them help you set up websites etc. this was the joy of my weekend, meeting other Light Sword Publishing authors and administration. thanks ladies, you made my weekend.
Saturday sales were slow, not just for us, but for many of the other vendors. Many people came and browsed, but didn't buy. Sunday was a different story. We had lines of customers storming our little booth. Didn't hurt that we had Carol dressed up in Renaissance costume We also had: Jane Ellen Harris "Room for One More" a darling children's book. In other categories: CJ Parker's Fugue Macabre: Ghost Dance, Laurie Sorenson's historical romance Ravenwood: Night's Salvation, a non-fiction guide to on-line dating Searching4Mr. Right by Rene Schultz, a memoir about a family, their joys, sorrows and tragedies written in the emergency room as their daughter lay dying after being hit by a drunk drive, . . . And the Whippoorwill Sang by Micki Peluso, Linda Daly's Rebel Dove, a historical Civil War romance and
my romantic suspense novel, In the Arms of the Enemy.
Others that came were: Bonny Kirby and her wonderful (and helpful husband) Carol Montague who drove us around--a soon to be published author and Patricia aka Erin Collins, who will be published next year, also.
Lucky us. Some of us were fortunate to get reviews printed in Affaire de Coeur (okay, so I'm going to brag) In the Arms of the Enemy received a five star review and was a "reviewer's pick." Am I a proud mama, or what!
then there were the personal issues. Four of us came down with food poisoning after we ordered a pizza. I found out the next day, they'd just recalled pepperoni for E Coli. Luckily there wasn't much pepperoni on the pizza. Just enough . . . .
Next weekend I'll be in Detroit. I am so looking forward to this trip. I'll be able to drive it.

Joely, nice to hear from you. It was a nice trip. I'm hoping some of the other authors will write something so I can compile their notes and post them.

Hi, Pat. Nice description. And Jenna bush was on the same plane back to New Orleans that I was. Seems the President's plane was waiting for her there.
Oh, and my book's title is Fugue Macabre: Ghost Dance, not Shadow Dance. :)

Great description of the trip, Pat. I saw it through your eyes and words. If this trip wore you guys out it would have done me in with my Chronic fatigue syndrome-would have needed a stretcher to the airport--assuming you could ever get me on a plance lol. I last flew on one like Char described--that was plenty for me. Thanks for showing me the festival through your wonderful escapades!!
