Recipe for fried mushrooms in a beer batter

I thought an interesting tidbit in a blog might be short and easy recipes. This is one that caught my attention back in the 70's. It came from a book, but the pages are so dog-earred and the cover's missing that I don't know who wrote it. But the recipe is delicious. If the author reads this, let me know and I'll give you credit. You deserve it. This only takes ten minutes.

Recipe: This is a heck of a lot of fun and only takes ten minutes. It comes from a recipe book that I bought in the 70's (I think) It's so dog eared it's hard to tell. With apologies to the author. I have no idea who it is. But the recipe is delicious.

FRIED MUSHROOMS:

Place the deep frying pan containing lard (see how old it is?) on the gas. (see how old it is? although I do have a gas stove)
Take half a pound of middle-sized mushrooms . Cut off the sandy base of the stem. Wash the very carefully and dry them with a cloth.
Dip the mushrooms in batter composed of a beaten egg, three spoonfuls of flour and enough beer to make a cream which is fluid but thick enough to coat the mushrooms.
Dip the musrooms in this paste, and throw the one by one into the smoking fat. Fry for five to six minutes. Lift them out. Drain Salt (to taste)

Don't forget Krys Roz's workshop tonight where I'll be featured. No throwing virtual tomatos.

ANOTHER IMPORTANT GOODY. NEXT MONTH I'LL BE STARTING A VIRTUAL BLOG TOUR. IT'S BEING SET UP AND YOU CAN SEE THE PROGRESS IF YOU GO TO:
