H.R. 1094: To prohibit the sale or transport of equines and equine parts in interstate or foreign co
Weigh in and send your message to Congress about H.R. 1094: To prohibit the sale or transport of equines and equine parts in interstate or foreign commerce for human consumption.

This post came from Karen Hansen Downs, an advocate for the ban on mustang roundups and horse slaughter. I thought it inciteful.

I know many of you are probably sick of seeing my posts regarding horse slaughter. I am not going to apologize as this is a matter of great concern to me, and should be to you. Even if the welfare of horses is not a priority to you, the integrity of the U.S. food supply and use of tax dollars should be! I am sure you are all aware of horse meat that has entered the EU food chain. Not just horse meat, but horse meat contaminated with drugs not meant for human consumption. The consumption of horse meat is not even legal in the U.S. due to the use of these drugs. We don't even use it in dog food any longer. As far as taxes. We would pay taxes to have our USDA inspect horses to be sent to other countries, when they are already strapped inspecting the existing food animals in our own country!. (Scary isn't it! We can't eat it, but we will willingly feed it to other countries!!!) 4 States are currently seeking to reopen horse slaughter facilities here in the U.S. Our food supply is indeed in danger of being contaminated. Please read these posts and sign the petitions. Educate yourself!!! We are currently in a position to stop this at a Federal level, but we need your support! Please call your State Senators and Representatives and ask them to support S.541/H.R.1094-The Safeguard American Food Exports (SAFE) Act. Thank

Thanks Karen for permission to post

Pat, thank's for a very insightful post. I wasn't aware horses are given drugs that we can't eat-I wonder how many other livestock are as well and we get them anyway. I also didn't know that they no longer give horsemeat to dogs, although some of the commercial dog food is so full of crap that the dogs don't live as long and healthy as they could be.

My God you are so right!
We all should do something!
Very important issue and it must not be neglected.
We are responsible to pass this information if they do not. We are after all what we eat.

thank you for your comments. Kelly, you are so right. We are what we eat. Some of those antibiotics in horse meat will kill us and our children.
